On October 10th, 2010, the St. Alexander Nevsky Foundation celebrated its 6th annual Russian and Slavic Cultural Festival. The festival turned out to be a great success with over 1350 attendees on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. This year’s festival featured Barynya Russian Dance Ensemble for the first time. Barynya performed to a packed audience who enjoyed traditional Russian foods and drinks. The festival also featured tours of the St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral accompanied by an explanation of the history of the cathedral as well as a short performance by the cathedral’s male choir.
This sixth annual festival was dedicated to our dear friend Val Schumakoff who passed away this past August. Val was integral part of our parish community, a devoted husband and a caring father. Val’s work and leadership made the Russian and Slavic Cultural Festival a success every year. He was a dear friend to many and will be missed.
